  1. X-Plane has been like that for as long as I can remember. It's never "finished", but is constantly being updated. Microsoft seems to have copied this scheme pretty much exactly with MSFS 2020.
  2. If you want to do this flight in a jet fighter, I think you'll need one of these:
  3. I don't think you'll get any agreement on what sim is the "best", just a bunch of opinions. Either X-Plane or MSFS offer the features you are looking for, so you really can't go wrong with either of them. Just make sure you have a computer with enough power to be capable of running them well, i.e. well more than the shown minimum specs.
  4. I've used X-Plane 11 as well as all the Microsoft versions. My general feeling is that X-Plane is not all that different from MSFS. Ultimately, they are both trying to accomplish the same thing: recreate the entire world and let you realistically fly in it. When I first tried X-Plane I did not find the learning curve all that bad. Like MSFS, it has a series of menus that lets you set up things and create a flight with your chosen aircraft. As for your specific questions, here are my opinions: Which X-Plane version should I go for? If you're going to do this, the only choice is the latest version as that's what the developer and community are supporting. Hardware requirements are higher, similar or lesser than MSFS? I'd recommend looking at the X-Plane web site for specifics. If by "MSFS" you mean the 2020 version, if you can run that you should be able to run X-Plane. Is X-Plane a sim you need to fly always on-line, like MSFS? No. Is it updated often? Yes. X-Plane is constantly in development, much like MSFS 2020 has been. What's the scenery coverage: does it cover the whole World? Yes. What's the detail level of scenery? They don't have the technology that MSFS 2020 to use world-wide real-world imagery, but I'd say it's better than any earlier version of MSFS. What's the flight realism level? Is it adjustable? I don't recall... I assume you can buy extra aircraft to include in the sim. Same applies to scenery? X-Plane is well supported by developers. There are lots of add-ons available.
  5. I don't think there's a way to automatically find duplicate settings. But I'd suggest spending some time learning all the setup section can do. The "search" function can be pretty handy for example. I'm still not an expert on it myself. There are a lot of available settings... It does take a while to get your control devices set up properly, and the more you have the more trial and error it will take until you find your ideal setup.
  6. I've been meaning to do some more flying in New Zealand, having seen some of its beautiful scenery in the past. So giving this trip a try seemed like a must. Sorry, I didn't fly a fixed wing plane...I've been flying mostly helicopters lately so took the Bell JetRanger. Flying low through the valleys was a treat! Took me 43 minutes so no speed records set here. Here's my flight: Wow, even a helicopter facility to tie down at
  7. I know you said you checked the controls, but this sort of thing sounds like you have a conflict with the flight controls, i.e. having two things set to control the elevators. The control setup is kind of complex because there are so many things to set. Do you have settings specifically for the throttle and joystick you are using? Can you observe the plane itself when this happens? From an external view you should be able to see the flight control surfaces and see if the plane is being flown under control (though not yours) towards the ground. On some planes you would be able to see the same thing from the cockpit if the yoke or stick are animated
  8. Try editing your club again now and see if you can now add forums (I.e. "topics") to it.
  9. Just so it's clear, it's not my web site. I sold it almost two years ago. These days I'm a user pretty much like you. As a test, I just tried a number of downloads using Firefox and then Chrome. I got no reports of "malicious files", the downloads went exactly as they should. So why is it that others are getting problems? We're using the same web site but getting different results.
  10. Given that not everyone experiences this problem, it appears that your choice of browser is at least partially responsible. What I am suggesting is that it would be useful for you to better understand how your chosen browser works, i.e. *why* is your browser claiming some files are dangerous, when you know they are not. I think doing some research on this would be a better use of your time than continuing to post about it here. The same goes for others participating in this thread.
  11. I don't have answers for any of the things you brought up. I also don't know about "Amazon AWS servers"; that wasn't me who mentioned those. Instead of speculating here, I suggest you do some web search on this topic and see if you can find the real reason it's happening. Then please share your findings with the rest of us.
  12. OK, that's a different problem then. I was just going by what features the documentation said were supposed to be there. It sounds like there are admin settings in addition that control what options the the club creator can set. I'll do a little more looking in the Invision docs and see if I can find how that works.
  13. Not sure why you say that... This site has not changed. If this site was safe months ago it's the same today. Whatever is changing is external to the web site. It would be interesting to find out exactly what *is* changing.
  14. As club creator you have the ability to choose what features the club has. If you want forums like this, you have to turn that feature on. So far from what I've seen the only thing you've done is create some static pages. Go to your club and click on "Manage Club". This lets you choose what features you want the club to have. Message forums like this are called "topics". Invision has online documentation for stuff like this, though it requires some searching. This section on clubs might be helpful to you: https://invisioncommunity.com/4guides/how-to-use-ips-community-suite/managing-your-community/using-clubs-r306/
  15. WW2 New Guinea Sightseeing Disaster in Hidden Valley/Shangri-La By Frank's MS Flight Sim In 1945, during WW2, in Dutch New Guinea, a USAAF C-47 Skytrain sightseeing flight went horribly wrong. Intending to over-fly recently discovered beautiful Hidden Valley / Shangri-La, with its stone age-type natives, the aircraft crashed high in the mountains surrounding the narrow entrance pass into the Valley. Only 3 of the 24 on board survived after an agonising six weeks in the jungle. Hope you find this interesting. Cheers. Frank's MS Flight Sim https://www.youtube.com/@FranksMSFlightSimulator About Frank's MS Flight Sim New channel begun in 2021. Visit notable airfields and areas in Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS). Themes so far include: WW2; Bush/Mt./Water/Outback strips; “Golden Oldie” strips; heritage/vintage strips; and aircraft accident investigations. More different themes to come. Expect a new video roughly each week. Provides brief, interesting information, often with history, geography, maps, pictures etc, and great places to fly in MSFS. Focus is on interesting content rather than production values.
