CAN I REMOVE A SCENERY FILE IN FS2000, AND REPLACE IT WITH A NEW DESIGN?

Mike
Namibia

FS2000 has two "switches" - Flatten and Exclude - that can be used in the
Scenery.cfg file (located in the main FS2000 folder) to get rid of default
scenery. Check the readme.txt in the fs2000 folder. MK

SOME OF MY AIRCRAFT IS SITTING ON IT'S BODY, WITH THE WHEELS MELTED IN THE RWY!

>some of my aircraft look like they are sitting on body when on the runway.
>Looks like the landing gear is imbedded in the scenery somehow.
>Any ideas on how to correct this?

There are several .air modification programs for download. One of
them is AirEd.zip. Once you have it installed, you can assign it to always
open files with the .air extension.
Now just double click on the .air file and it will open up in the
AirEd editor. This extracts most of the variables in the .air file, which is in
binary format and lists them out in alphanumeric format.
Scroll down the list to find "Landing Gear".
Expand that and you have a list of landing gear values.
Look for "Main Vertical" and "Nose/Tail Vertical".
Increasing the values will "pull" the gear out of the runway. You may
have to play with the numbers and see what happens. Save the file when you
are done!

If you are doing this while FS2000 is running and the airplane is
loaded, youwill have to select another airplane and then reselect the one that
you are fixing to see the results.

PROBLEMS WITH FLOATING RUNWAYS WHEN USING FS98 SCENERY IN FS2000

By now those adventurous simmers would have seen those pesky floating runways
when trying to load up FS98 sceneries in FS2000.
I was led to believe that the way to fix this is to insert and adjust
the "flatten" command inScenery.cfg.
I have news: it doesn't really work perfectly. There is always that 10 feet
or so "dead" space where the runway and ground don't meet.

Let me offer another solution.
Use Chuck Dome's "Runway generator" program. Its easy its fast
(available here in Flightsim.com). I will give a brief instruction on how to
use it since the program has no instructions.

Install and specify your preferred location.
Go to your FS98 scenery in FS2000 itself. You are trying to REPLACE the
floating runway. Use the Map View (Top Down) and slew to the centre of the
runway (centre in respect to width and length). Record the longitude and
latitude. Note altitude and Heading as well. EXIT FS2000.
Run the Runway program and input the information. Runway widths are usually
200 feet and lengths can be determined by any Airport Maps.
The heading is the TRUE heading (don't use the exact FS2000 heading, you need
to adjust around 10to 20 degrees depending on location). Generate the Runway.bgl
file. Rename it ifyou want and enter into your FS98 Scenery Folder.
Run FS2000 and you will see the new Runway on top of the old runway
(don't worry, no floating problem). If you are off, run the Runway program
and adjust your input. You can generate as many runways in an airport as you
wish as long as you keep renaming the default runway.bgl otherwise it will
overwrite each time.

All CREDITS go to Chuck Dome for his fantastic program. Simple yet profound.

HOW CAN I ADD ATIS/ASOS FREQ. TO SMALLER AIRPORTS IN FS2000?

>Does anyone know how I can add ATIS or ASOS Freq. on FS2000?

Download the easynavs.zip by Herve Sors.
It is available here itself in the search files section of this site.
Here is the extract from his readme file.

---
EASYNAVS is a Windows utility, that can:
1) Extracts Navaids (VOR, ILS, NDB and markers), ATIS records and Airports data
from a BGL-format scenery file and writes them into a "standardized" text file
which can easily by read and edit by any text editor (.NAV extension for
Navaids, .ATS extension for ATIS and .APT extension for airports).

2) Creates a stand alone Navaids, Atis or Airport BGL file from the
corresponding text file3) Removes selected sections from a BGL file

4) Merge BGL sections from 2 files to create a new single BGL file

5) Look at existing BGL sections in any file

6) Edit and modify Runway data which are incorporated in BGL files

7) Build stand-alone Runway BGL files8) Create exclude BGL files
